Stand with & Support Myon Burrell's Journey

My name is Ianna Burrell and I am kindly seeking help raise funds for my brother Myon Burrell.

Myon Burrell was wrongly convicted when he was 16 years old for a crime he did not commit. In 2020, the state finally commuted Myon’s sentence. After serving 18 years in prison, Myon returned to his family and community.

Like many people who spend years in prison, Myon faced hard obstacles on the outside. The Covid-pandemic made his reintegration even harder.

After a few rocky years, Myon found his footing. He had meaningful employment with The Legal Revolution. As the non-profit’s community organizer, Myon helped connect justice impacted individuals and organizations to civil legal services. He recently helped organize an expungement clinic that provided legal assistance to people trying to clear their records. Recently, Myon was finally able to get his own apartment.

This past December, a Hennepin County judge sentenced Myon to five years in prison for alleged crimes that occurred a couple years earlier. Myon and his lawyers are appealing the sentence and fighting for his exoneration. They are hopeful that Myon will soon get justice and walk out of prison a free man.

We are raising money to provide a landing pad for Myon. The money will go toward rent, transportation, technology (phone and computer), food, and more. Additionally, the money will help Myon’s family with ongoing expenses related to Myon’s incarceration
