Stand with Roman's Family in Their Time of Need

Hello, my name is Roman Reynaga and this is our story. It was just another Tuesday night and we were all getting ready for bed and my fiance Jennifer calls out to me and says she needed help. She said it in such a way that I knew something was very wrong. I had never heard her say anything in that tone of voice.

I dropped my drink and ran upstairs, she was holding on to the stove and she said she couldn't breathe. I ran to get her inhaler and gave it to her and asked her if she felt better to which she just kind of shook her head. I then ran to get the nebulizer and got her a chair while I set it up for her. After using it for a bit she shook her head again and just weakly said "hospital."

I told the kids to get their shoes on and to get in the car because we had to go. Unfortunately, they were there and saw most of what happened. I looked at Jenny and the last thing she said to me was "Roman, I am scared" to which I replied "It's ok baby, calm down its going to be ok." I got both of the kids into the car and I got a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach saying that I should call 911.

As I walked to the kitchen, I heard Jenny fall and hit the ground. What I saw as I turned the corner haunts me. She had seized up and wasn't breathing, her lips and eyelids were turning purple. I was already talking to the 911 dispatcher, I dropped the phone and started doing chest compressions.

Living in a small town the police showed up within 45 seconds, and maybe another 45 seconds the paramedics showed up. They told me and my children to go outside and that the paramedics needed to work on her. They told me that she had stopped breathing and her heart had stopped. After a few minutes they managed to resuscitate her and took her to the hospital where she was then airlifted to Wichita.

I spent four days by her side completely out of my mind while my family watched my children. As difficult as it was, I had to leave Jenny and check on my children. My son told my mother that he couldn't breathe so she took him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with Streptococcus pneumonia and was admitted and put on antibiotics and oxygen.

I drove four hours to Wichita to check on Jenny and I would drive back four hours to check on my son daily. On the third day I noticed my daughter didn't look so good so I took her to the hospital too, she was also admitted and came back positive for RSV and Streptococcus pneumonia. She got bad really quick, and they ended airlifting her to the same hospital that Jenny was in.

Within the span of 10 days my entire family was hospitalized. Both of the children were hospitalized for 12 days. My daughter almost died. She came out of it with a cough that we were told would last a couple of months and would leave her short of breath for a while. My son came out of this without any residual effects. Jenny has been in the hospital in a coma for two months now, when the children ask about her all I can really tell them is that "she is asleep."

We are just average people just trying to survive in this world. What little savings we had, I have had to use for all of this, including what we were saving up for our wedding. I've missed almost two months of work. We need help. I get a stack of hospital bills daily.

I am trying to get medicaid for Jenny so I can move her to a long term care facility but medicaid will only pay for a certain amount of time then I will have to bring her home and take care of her myself. We will need a ventilator and a hospital bed and other miscellaneous equipment and the cost of moving her here. What has kept me going through all of this is the love for my family and my faith in God. First and foremost, I ask that you pray for her, I have always had my faith and have always been a believer.

Despite the odds and what doctors say, I have my faith in the Lord and faith that she will get better. If you want to help us out financially, any amount, know that I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart. If you want to share our story to prayer groups, please do. And if you just want to share our story with other people, I also thank you. Thank you, and God bless.
