"The Power of Us" to stay housed in the mobile homes we own.
We are Youngstown, Little Woods, and Capri Mobile Park residents in Petaluma, fighting against bad actors and large investment groups that are buying mobile parks in every city and state.
Who we really are, though, is EVERY mobile park resident fighting for the rights of all.
We own our mobile home but rent the land underneath.
We have created beautiful communities within the walls of our parks and care for each other from food insecurity, to ground rent insecurity, to mental health and isolation care.
While the word 'mobile' implies a mobile home can be moved, in most cases, this is not true.
When these large investment groups bought our parks, we have and continue to battle the most prolific case of elder and vulnerable resident abuse.
We have faced retaliation in ground rent through attempted increases of up to $1530, and in Youngstown Senior Mobile Park's case, almost $1000 more.
Park owners have attempted to make our senior park all-age unlawfully. They have tried, and are currently trying, to hang the park's closure over residents if they do not give in to their demands. They have been attempting to evict residents from the land for having weeds, too many potted plants, a hole in the skirting, and more.
They have added $1969 on top of the current land rent to harm seniors or push them to the street.
They have attempted 7 arbitrations (6 just in the last 2 years), 3 appeals, and 5 lawsuits against the City of Petaluma for enforcing the city’s Senior Park Overlay or for implementing the Rent Stabilization in place since 1994.
We, the hundreds of Petaluma mobile park residents, have protested, boycotted, gone to the State Capitol to have our voices heard, enacted legislation, and partnered with nonprofits like Petaluma People Services and Rebuilding Together Petaluma to prevent violations with as many as 90 volunteers supporting our residents.
We have had to fund SO much money to have a level legal representation—to have a CHANCE.
We have been successful in 6 arbitrations, successful in one with a small amount award, successful on appeal, successful in community solidarity, and successful in sharing and supporting all 1.6 million mobile park residents in the state of California.
We did this by always supplying facts.
We may not be residents of wealth, but we are residents of value who merely purchased a mobile home within our means for pride of housing ownership, which should be everyone’s right.
These large investment group bad actors have a lot of money—mostly gained off what they call us—“cash cows.” They have bragged in a letter to the City of Petaluma about the millions of dollars they have raised and are willing to spend on continuous litigation.
We are your grandparents, your parents, seniors who have made our marks in many cities and deserve to live our lives free of this extraordinary fear. Your help not only secures our mobile homes for us but secures the hope that all our seniors throughout our state who live in a mobile park—1.6 million of us—secure their housing and their future.
Please help us stay in our homes, to advocate for our rights, and bring back some semblance of living and maybe a small amount of joy. We are forever grateful for your help, your support, and your care for your fellow neighbors.
Every dollar raised will help all our seniors and our vulnerable families. Every dollar raised will go to legal and housing needs to keep all housed and enforce local and state ordinances.
We are at a crossroads needing as much support as we can as we battle BIG money and retaliatory litigation from park owners trying to bury us in legal debt for one purpose, either submission or residents sent to the streets.
Our story has been all over the press and news. You can find our story in press coverage or on Faces of Youngstown and Little Woods posted below.
We have built a strong grassroots advocacy not for an “I” but for a “US.”
Everything we do, we do for all. As we attempt to fund appeals, closures, and ward off losing our mobile home, we truly need any donation you can give.
We are grateful for any donation, act of kindness, or support.
We are setting the precedent for positive pushback against greed that will help the entire community of mobile park residents in the United States who live within their means.
Please help us fight against GREED and against ABUSE.
Be part of the change that all can be proud of—that of protection for seniors and vulnerable families.
