Our family arrived in Denver on August 28, 2026, for what was supposed to be a joyful vacation and celebration of my birthday on August 31. During the trip, we visited Pikes Peak and the Royal Gorge, spent time walking outdoors, and made wonderful memories together. We were scheduled to return home on September 2.

Sadly, on September 1—the day before we were supposed to leave—our family vacation turned into a nightmare when my nephew Mehki was involved in a devastating scooter accident and collided with a vehicle.

Making the call to tell my sister that her son had been critically injured was one of the most painful and gut-wrenching moments of my life. Mehki was with me when the accident happened, and the weight of what occurred has remained with me every day since.

Mehki now faces a long and difficult recovery. Doctors estimate that he and his family may need to remain in Denver for approximately 6 to 12 weeks while he continues healing and prepares for another surgery to reattach the portion of his skull that was removed.

My sister is a hardworking single mother raising her two sons, Mehki and Amir. She now has to remain in Denver, away from home and work, to stay by Mehki’s side throughout his recovery. Although she may receive FMLA benefits, they will cover only about 60% of her regular income. Meanwhile, her mortgage, insurance, household expenses, hotel accommodations, transportation, meals, and other unexpected costs will continue to accumulate.

I will support my sister and her children with everything I have, but the financial impact of this tragedy will be overwhelming. That is why I am humbly turning to our family, friends, and community for help.

Any contribution—regardless of the amount—will help my sister remain by Mehki’s side without having to carry the full financial burden alone. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Mehki and our entire family in your prayers.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, compassion, prayers, and support during this incredibly painful time.
