Dear Friends and Family,

We are Michael and Kaylee Ferris, and we want to share the story of our young cousin, Luciana, who is in urgent need of all our support. As many of you know, we are of Peruvian heritage, with much of our family living in Cajamarca, Peru (in the Northern Highlands). Recently, our little cousin began experiencing severe stomach pains after meals. When she was taken to a local hospital in Cajamarca, doctors discovered a 10 cm tumor growing in her abdomen.

Because Cajamarca’s hospital is small and doesn't specialize in pediatric cancer care, Luciana was flown to a children's emergency hospital in Lima, Peru. There, doctors quickly realized how serious her condition was and transferred her to the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas, a leading cancer hospital in Lima.

Luciana Belén Machuca Chávez is just four years old, and she is bravely fighting for her life. She has always been a joyful, energetic little girl, who loves playing with Barbies, dolls, and cooking sets. After undergoing extensive testing and spending Christmas in the hospital, Luciana was diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma, a rare and highly aggressive form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The road ahead will be incredibly challenging, both medically and financially.

To be by her side, Luciana's parents have had to leave their jobs, their home, and relocate to Lima to support her treatment. Unfortunately, they recently learned that her cancer is at stage 4, and she will need intensive chemotherapy to fight for her life. Despite the challenges, we remain hopeful that with the right care, love, and support, Luciana will recover.

Currently, Luciana’s parents are renting a condo near the hospital while taking turns caring for her. Luciana’s 9-year-old little brother is back in Cajamarca with relatives, constantly asking about his sister and hoping for their family to be reunited soon.

We have started this fundraiser to help ease the financial burden on Luciana’s family during this difficult time. We will keep you updated on Luciana’s progress as we receive new information.

Queridos amigos y familia,

Somos Michael y Kaylee Ferris, y queremos compartir la historia de nuestra primita, Luciana, quien necesita urgentemente todo nuestro apoyo. Como muchos de ustedes saben, somos de ascendencia Peruana, con gran parte de nuestra familia viviendo en Cajamarca, Perú (en las Altas Tierras del Norte). Recientemente, nuestra pequeña prima comenzó a experimentar dolores abdominales severos después de las comidas. Cuando la llevaron a un hospital local en Cajamarca, los médicos descubrieron un tumor de 10 centímetros creciendo en su abdomen.

Debido a que el hospital de Cajamarca es pequeño y no está especializado en el tratamiento del cáncer pediátrico, Luciana fue trasladada en avión a un hospital de emergencias infantiles en Lima, Perú. Allí, los médicos rápidamente se dieron cuenta de la gravedad de su condición y la trasladaron al Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas, un hospital líder en cáncer en Lima.

Luciana Belén Machuca Chávez tiene solo cuatro años, y está luchando valientemente por su vida. Siempre ha sido una niña alegre y llena de energía, que ama jugar con Barbies, muñecas y sets de cocina. Después de someterse a una serie de pruebas y pasar la Navidad en el hospital, a Luciana le diagnosticaron Linfoma de Burkitt, una forma rara y muy agresiva de linfoma no-Hodgkin. El camino por delante será increíblemente desafiante, tanto médica como financieramente.

Para estar a su lado, los padres de Luciana han tenido que dejar sus trabajos, su hogar, y mudarse a Lima para apoyar su tratamiento. Lamentablemente, recientemente supieron que su cáncer está en etapa 4 y que necesitará quimioterapia intensiva para luchar por su vida. A pesar de los desafíos, seguimos siendo optimistas de que, con el cuidado adecuado, el amor y el apoyo, Luciana se recuperará.

Actualmente, los padres de Luciana están alquilando un departamento cerca del hospital mientras se turnan para cuidarla. El hermanito de Luciana, de 9 años, está en Cajamarca con familiares, preguntando constantemente por su hermanita y esperando que su familia se reúna pronto.

Hemos comenzado esta campaña de recaudación de fondos para ayudar a aliviar la carga financiera de la familia de Luciana en este momento tan difícil. Les mantendremos informados sobre el progreso de Luciana a medida que recibamos nueva información.
