Life can change in a single moment, and our family is now living through one of those moments. Recently, our beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend Laurie received an unexpected and devastating diagnosis of advanced cancer. What we believed to be a treatable issue has revealed itself to be an aggressive illness that has spread far beyond what anyone imagined. The news has come with heartbreaking speed. Doctors have shared that Laurie’s time may be limited, and the next few weeks are critical as urgent treatments begin. Radiation, potentially chemotherapy, specialist appointments, and ongoing testing are all happening at once. Laurie is fighting with incredible strength, but this journey is already moving far too quickly.
Laurie and her husband Kent have always been the first to show up for others. They are humble, hardworking people who never imagined they would ever need to ask their community for support. But this diagnosis has turned their world upside down. Because of Laurie’s condition, she is unable to work, and Kent has had to take early retirement to become her full-time caregiver. Their income has suddenly stopped at the exact moment when medical bills, travel expenses, and everyday costs are rapidly rising.
