Stand With Greg: Recover From Scam

Hi, my name is Aline Anunciato, and I’m reaching out to ask for your kindness and support for my incredible and generous neighbor, Greg S. Greg recently fell victim to a heartbreaking scam that wiped out $30,000 of his hard-earned savings. He’s a senior in his 60s, living alone and unable to work due to a disability, with no family to turn to for help.

We’re all at risk of being targeted by scams, but older adults and those with limited resources are especially vulnerable. In Greg’s case, it was a technical support scam that exploited his limited knowledge of computers and cybersecurity. The scam left him in a devastating emotional and financial situation, as the $30,000 he lost was money he had been saving for retirement and essential household expenses.

Greg is one of the kindest and most generous people you’ll meet here in Glen Park, San Francisco. He’s always ready to lend a hand—whether it’s volunteering with the Salvation Army to deliver meals during the holidays or sharing his sweet corgi, Miss W., to brighten everyone’s day. Personally, Greg’s kindness has touched my life deeply - he shares Miss W. with me, and on tough days, she’s been like my little “emotional support” buddy.

Unfortunately, while the San Francisco Police Financial Crimes Unit is investigating, it’s unlikely the funds will be recovered. That’s where we, as his community, can step in and show Greg that he’s not alone.
