Support Beyond FGM – Help Protect Girls from FGM & Child Marriage

For the past 25 years, Beyond FGM have travelled from village to village around West Pokot in Kenya, working directly with communities to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and the linked practice of child marriage.

Beyond FGM and their partner organisation, the Pokot-based Centre for Indigenous Child Rights (CICR), have supported more than 6,000 girls to say no to FGM, and developed a community-led Alternative Rite of Passage.

Where your donation goes

Every Beyond FGM volunteer is entirely self funded, so 100% of what you give goes directly to CICR to support their tireless work on the ground. Your donation supports essential community outreach and education programmes, supports a safe house for girls, and funds the long-term grassroots work required to help whole communities abandon harmful practices.

Ending FGM requires a sustained effort involving local leadership, cultural understanding, and consistent presence. Beyond FGM and CICR have proven that change is possible, and your support helps them reach more villages, more families, and more girls who deserve safety and choice.

Cath & Kate’s Trip: Outreach During 16 Days of Activism

This November, volunteers Cath and Kate are travelling to West Pokot to join CICR on an intensive outreach trip timed to coincide with the global 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls.

Cath is a midwife with decades of experience who founded Beyond FGM after witnessing the harm caused by FGM whilst on VSO in West Pokot in the 90s, and Kate is an experienced community facilitator. They will be on the ground with CICR, convening community dialogues where girls and their families hear about the very real harms of FGM and child marriage, and supporting them to abandon these harmful practices within their communities.

Their presence boosts local efforts, strengthens partnerships, and helps reach even more girls at a critical moment in the global calendar for women and girls’ rights.

This work changes lives. It protects girls’ futures. And it only happens because of grassroots outreach - meeting families where they are, building trust, and working with communities to co-develop meaningful alternatives.
