(Español abajo) On September 23, Evelin traveled to a courthouse in Baltimore for a routine immigration hearing. Her fiance, Locadio, received a phone call shortly after that she had been detained and would be deported the following day. Evelin is 6-months pregnant and the family also has a 2-year old son and a 9 year-old son. Evelin was transferred to a detention center in Chantilly, Virginia where she was held for 9 days. While Evelin was detained, Locadio was unable to find reliable childcare, so he assumed the role of caregiver and unfortunately lost his full-time employment. Their 9-year old son also missed school while Evelin was detained due to the ongoing grief and chaos. To add to the stressful environment, the family was in the process of moving apartments when Evelin was detained. Locadio handled the move solo, all while caring for their children.

Remarkably, Evelin was released in early October and has been reunited with her family, but the fight for the family to remain together is not over. Due to her immigration status, Evelin must travel to Baltimore regularly for immigration court proceedings - the very location where she was first taken and detained. The whole family remains grief-stricken from the detainment and are deeply concerned she could be taken again.

The family is doing what they can to remain hopeful. Having lost his employment, Locadio is now picking up ad hoc work when possible.
