Support Maria & her family she was taken by ICE & Deported

My name is Erika Perez. I am a firefighter in California and the daughter of Maria Valeriano Perez a and loving mother who was taken from my siblings and I. On June 4th, during her routine ICE check-in in Camarillo, California, my mother was detained and later deported to Oaxaca, Mexico. She came to the United States in search of a better life, and she found it here. She worked hard. She followed the law. She paid her taxes. She had a valid work permit. She built a life and a family. This country was her home. She lived in the US for 35 yrs.
My mother was not a criminal. She was our rock. She raised her children with quiet strength and endless love. Everyone who knew her saw her kindness the way she would care for others before herself, the way she lit up a room with her presence. Now, she is gone to a whole other country where she has to start all over again without her kids by her side. ICE took her from us like she meant nothing. I’ve been left alone to care for my two younger siblings. We are grieving, overwhelmed, and broken. Our lives have been turned upside down. What’s even more painful is knowing how my mother was mistreated among other women in those detention centers. The conditions she and other women endured in the Los Angeles facility were cruel and dehumanizing. My mother suffers from mental health challenges severe anxiety and depression and she is diabetic. She relied on consistent medical care here in the U.S. That care is gone now. My mother deserved compassion. She deserved dignity. She did everything right and still, the system tore her away from us.
This is not just my family’s story. This is the story of countless immigrant families torn apart by policies that see paperwork, not people. Any donations would be greatly appreciated all the donations will go toward my mother to pay her expenses in Mexico and health. Thank you to VC Defensa and PSL Los Angeles for the support and everyone in the community.

Estamos abrumados. Estamos rotos.
