Stand with Eddie: Fighting for Justice, the Vulnerable, and Our Community

I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend and community leader, Eddie Avilés.

Eddie has dedicated his life to standing up against injustice and corruption, creating safe hubs for the homeless, supporting people with mental health challenges, disabilities, and those in need of food, medication, and basic care. He has been leading the Safe Sleep for All campaign, fighting to provide safe and humane shelter for people experiencing homelessness, those displaced, and families in crisis.

But Eddie’s work doesn’t stop there. He shows up for everyone—from babies to families, from unhoused neighbors to beloved pets. Some of the countless ways he helps the community include:

• Leading the fight for housing justice and safe sleep for all.

• Organizing food distributions so no family goes hungry.

• Providing diapers, formula, and essentials for babies.

• Running book bag drives so children are prepared for school.

• Helping locate missing kids, runaways, and trafficking victims.

• Reuniting families with lost dogs and pets.

• Providing dog food and supplies for animals in need.

• Mobilizing volunteers to ensure resources reach those who need them most.

Now, Eddie needs our support. While peacefully advocating for housing justice, Eddie was arrested and now faces legal charges — nuisance, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, and jaywalking. Some of the tents and supplies meant for unhoused people were discarded in the process. Eddie cannot carry the resulting legal expenses alone.

This fundraiser will help cover:

• Attorney fees

• Court costs & filing fees

• Related legal defense expenses

Eddie has always stood up for others. Now it’s our turn to stand up for him.
