Dear friends, colleagues, and all who stand for justice,
Two weeks ago, Dr. Badar Khan Suri was ruled deportable by an immigration court. Badar and his family find themselves once again in a terrifying, opaque, and costly legal ordeal. The fees for legal representation in this new phase are likely to cost him over $70,000. And this is why Badar and his family need your support.
To fund this fight against Badar’s deportation, we need to raise $70,000. This is a call to action, a call to help a community member in need! All funds raised will go 100% to paying for Badar’s legal representation.
If we are unable to raise these funds, Badar may face deportation in under two months’ time – now is the time for our community to come together and support Badar once again in his fight for justice!
With your support, there is a strong hope that Badar can defeat these deportation proceedings and secure justice for himself and his family.
Who is Badar?
Badar is a postdoctoral fellow at Georgetown University’s Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. He holds a Ph.D. in Peace & Conflict Studies and has spent his career studying and promoting peace in some of the world’s most volatile regions—Afghanistan, Iraq, and Palestine.
His work is academic, humanistic, and grounded in a belief that peace is possible through dialogue and mutual understanding. He’s dedicated his life to that mission.
On the evening of March 17th, after Ramadan iftar, masked ICE agents took Dr. Badar Khan Suri from his family. He was arrested, transported thousands of miles from his family, and imprisoned by ICE. He was then charged under a rarely used law that the Trump Administration has used to target those who support Palestinian rights purely for their speech, with the government claiming that his presence in the United States would have “adverse foreign policy consequences.”
Two months later, a federal court ordered his release from detention, finding that there was a high probability that he would succeed in his claims that the federal government was unconstitutionally punishing him for his speech expressing support for the Palestinian people, and for his association with his wife, who is of Palestinian origin, and her family.
Even though Badar is thankfully back with his family, the government is continuing to try to deport him. His deportation proceedings are continuing in immigration court, where the government recently ruled that he is deportable. This bogus charge can – and will – be overcome with your support.
