Stand with Crystal: A Mother’s Battle

Hi, my name is Crystal Currie — I’m a licensed nurse, a domestic violence survivor, and most importantly, a mother.

For the last 18 months, I’ve been separated from my two beautiful daughters because the system failed to protect me. Instead of giving me safety and support, DCFS took my children after I survived a violent, livestreamed assault by my abuser. He was arrested. I followed every rule. And yet… I’m still fighting to bring them home.

I’ve done the work. I’ve completed parenting classes, stayed employed, maintained a stable home, and shown up — even when everything in the system tried to keep me down. And now I’m taking my fight to federal court to make them answer for what they’ve done — not just for me, but for every mother who’s been punished for surviving abuse.
