Stand with Chase: Legal and Recovery Support

Donation protected

On the afternoon of June 11th in Muskegon Heights, Michigan, an 11-year-old Black child was violently pulled from his mother’s car by police officers, handcuffed, thrown into a squad car, and left to cry alone… and all because he was accused of “matching a description.”

Chase also suffered bruising of the tendons in his wrist and hands as a result of being handcuffed. This was not a traffic stop either. The car was approached at an intersection by patrolmen on foot who jumped out of their patrol cars. Chase is also a special needs child.

No charges. No apology. No justice.

His mother was blocked from getting out of the vehicle. Both were detained, traumatized, and silenced.

When we demanded the truth, the city responded with a $1,600 fee for redacted bodycam footage and a redacted police report. Now we’re taking it federal.

We're launching a federal civil rights lawsuit against the officers, the department, and the city. But we need your help to fight all the way to court.

This GoFundMe will support:

Legal filing costs and attorney fees

Trauma recovery and counseling for the child

Community press and petition campaigns

Public record access and media strategy

Chase will never forget this. Help make sure the officers don’t either.
