Stand with Angie to Bring Antonio Home

My name is Kelly Dickerson. I have created a GoFundMe account for a very dear friend of mine, Angie Vaughn.

Ramee and I have known Angie for 8 years and she has been like a daughter to us as well as a best friend!

Angie was granted guardianship of the most amazing little 3-year-old boy in January of 2022. For the last 2.5 years, this sweet boy has been the absolute center of her world. Angie has been the sole provider and caregiver along with her partner from the day the guardianship was signed over. His birth mother has not contributed a single dollar for his care since that day.

On Saturday, June 29, the birth mother came from Dallas to Shreveport and was given permission to visit Antonio at Angie’s mother’s home where he was spending the day. When the birth mother arrived, she proceeded to literally grab Antonio and leave with him without permission from Angie. She left without his clothes, his medicine, or even shoes. After several hours of no contact with Angie, Angie called the police to file a report. Angie provided the guardianship paperwork and unfortunately, because this was not “signed by a judge”, there was nothing that could be done. They advised that Angie get an attorney.

There was no warning or any indication that she would do such a thing. She has been allowed visitation at other times through the last 2.5 years. The guardianship was signed by the birth mom and she also planned to allow Angie to adopt him once Angie was able to save up the money for court costs.

The retainer fee for the attorney to get started is $5,000. The total costs could easily exceed $10,000 once everything takes place. This could become a legal battle now that the birth mother has decided to take him and has had no contact with Angie since then.

Ramee, myself, and anyone that knows Angie knows this is the most devastating thing she could experience. Angie loves this little boy more than anything in this world. She has made countless sacrifices to provide for and care for him in a way that would’ve never occurred had she not been given guardianship. There is zero doubt in my mind that Antonio belongs with Angie!
