Stand with alaMar Dominican Kitchen in Tough Times

On the morning of May 10th, alaMar Dominican Kitchen suffered a devastating burglary. Within 2 minutes, 2 perpetrators walked away with most of the bottles from the bar. The police was called and showed up 10 minutes later. Two hours later, the same perpetrators returned and took the remaining inventory. What was left was not only bare shelves but broken dreams and a community searching for answers on when this destruction will stop for small businesses. This is not an isolated incident and it's happening far too often in our community.

I'm Chef Nelson German, the proud owner of alaMar Dominican Kitchen. We just celebrated a joyous milestone for our 10 year anniversary last week.

This was a devastating blow among the challenges of a business owner just trying to survive in hard times when Oakland is experiencing a decline in foot traffic and tourism plus a spate of bad press.

Throughout the years, we have always been supportive of the community. We fed frontline healthcare workers and laid-off restaurant workers during the pandemic. We give away thousands of dollars to local non profits and charities we support each year.

Now we are reaching out to the community and asking for your support to get us through this obstacle. We want to stay open and we want to continue serving the Oakland community but we can no longer do it without the help of the community.

There's no amount that's too small or large. Your gift will go towards replenishing our bar inventory and making sure our employees still have a job.
