Stand with a Mom Battling Employer Lawsuit

I am a single mother of two boys, one 6 years old that lives with me, whom I support fully on my own, and one 17 that lives with his father, for whom I pay child support but also send money anytime he needs it. I worked in the grocery industry practically my whole life, with my last job as a General Manager of a small local grocery store. It didn’t pay huge, but I had my needs met every month. The hours I was putting in at the grocery store, working 7 days a week, sometimes 18 hours a day, were really taking a toll on myself and my 6-year-old being raised by child care facilities.

I decided to search for a new job, but I needed to find one that paid at least what I was making, but hopefully a little more, right? I was finally offered a position with Dagenais Enterprises Riverside Auto Group as a finance manager at their Iron Mountain, MI location. During the interviews, I was promised to make “significantly more” than I ever have. Seven months into the job, and I was only taking home a mere $2500/month! That is less than half of what I made at the grocery store! I had to constantly reach out to my dad for help, which he did; he paid my rent for 7 months! Something I had not had to do since I was 18 years old is ask my parents for help! How embarrassing and demoralizing that was in itself to have to ask him for help over and over again.

So, 6 months into this, I decided to search for other employment, where I was offered a management position at Town & Country Sales! After careful consideration and other life events happening, as well as fear, I reluctantly turned that job down and stayed with Dagenais for another month, hoping things would get better. Long story short, things got worse! So, tail between my legs, I went back to Town & Country and begged and pleaded for a second chance in sales as a salesperson! After careful consideration, she offered me one more chance! So, I QUIETLY RESIGNED as the finance manager at Riverside Auto Group. Their policy there is if you put in a two-week notice, they walk you out the door. I decided to save myself the embarrassment and their satisfaction, so I did not go into work that day and sent them all a text message explaining my decision, which HR ignored! But I did however get responses from the General Manager and Sales manager wishing me well and best of luck!

Now, one month into my new job, and I am being served lawsuit papers from THE DAGENAIS ENTERPRISES RIVERSIDE AUTO GROUP! I couldn’t pay my bills, maxed out all my credit cards working there, and now they want to sue me for $25,000 in damages! WHAT DAMAGES DID I CAUSE THEM??!! They destroyed my finances, my integrity, and my well-being for 7 months! So, I am still playing catch-up on my life, and now I have to come up with money to pay lawyer fees to fight this case! A single mother trying to survive in this world, and a corporation as large as RIVERSIDE AUTO GROUP is going to take what little I have!! How sad! So, long story shortened up as much as I could, please help me with these legal fees and other fees that may arise from this.
