The Stand Together Movement is an idea we are initiating with a fundraising initiative. Our goal is to promote a community of support and solidarity and open dialogue to have hard conversations. As a Greek organization and on-campus community, we understand and believe that it is our responsibility to publicly denounce racism. It is not enough to simply be ‘not racist’ but it is important to be anti-racist. Our organization wishes to use our platform to raise awareness of racist acts that permeate our society. However, this is only the first step. We pledge to this ongoing battle to make changes to our own organization and actively fight against this behavior. As well as fight it externally as a committed ally of the Black community and the fights against systemic racism. This is where Western University's Greek Community stands.
All funds raised will be donated to the Black Health Alliance. In the era of Covid-19, we believe that it’s an appropriate choice as a community-led registered charity working to improve the health and well-being of Black communities in Canada. This organization aims to reduce the racial disparities in health outcomes and promote health and well-being for people from the diverse Black communities in Canada with emphasis on the broad determinants of health, including racism. Their vision is ‘for people from the diverse Black communities in Canada to experience optimal health and well-being’. All donations to the organization are divided into three principal components: 5% Research, 85% Community Health Infrastructure, and 10% Community Projects.
