Hi everyone,
If you know our little sister Zoe, you know she’s kind of magic. Creative, grounded, funny, wildly compassionate — and when she commits to something, she’s all in. For most of her life, that something has been circus. Zoe’s trained seriously for years — in San Diego and most recently in Montreal — building toward a professional career in the circus arts.
But a few weeks before her Montreal program ended, life threw her an unexpected curveball when her dad’s health declined rapidly and he suddenly required full-time care. Zoe made the difficult decision to leave Montreal early and come home — because her dad needed her. As his only child (with no siblings or close relatives left), Zoe became his full-time caregiver. No warning. No time to prepare. Just her, stepping up without hesitation.
We’re her older half-sisters — but in every way that matters, she’s simply our sister. And we’ve watched her take on this massive, adult-sized situation with so much grace and grit it’s honestly humbling. She’s now responsible for:
• Coordinating medical care
• Organizing his home and finances
• Clearing out and renting his condo
• Trying to keep her own life from disappearing entirely
She’s just 21. At her age many of us were just trying to figure out how to cook rice without burning the house down. She has just barely started her adult life and has been forced to take on responsibilities that most people don’t have to think about until much later. We are doing all we can to help her but the financial challenges are building up quickly and putting an incredible amount of stress on Zoe. She has been working so hard to do everything herself without inconveniencing anyone else but, as we’ve told her, it’s ok to ask for help.
So here’s why we’re starting this fundraiser:
We want to help Zoe do three big things:
1. Find a safe, long-term care facility for her dad
2. Stabilize and rent his condo to help cover his ongoing costs
3. Make space for her own future again — by getting her back to San Diego this summer to teach and train, reconnect with her circus community, and keep her dreams alive
Zoe didn’t plan for any of this. (Who would?) But she stepped up, and she’s doing it with more maturity, empathy, and yes — straight-up adulting — than most people twice her age. She’s doing everything right. But she shouldn’t have to do it alone.
If you can contribute — or even just share this — it’ll mean the world. Truly. You’ll be helping Zoe create stability for her dad, catch her breath, and begin reclaiming the path she’s worked so hard to build.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts,
