Stand by Nicaragua

Tax deductible
Last summer, I went on a service trip to Nicaragua in which we hosted a vision clinic and built homes for the people of Santa Patricia. However, the country is currently fraught with civil unrest, putting entire families out of work and making the setup of another vision clinic lofty.

Current President Daniel Ortega made reforms to their social security requiring more money paid in but less benefits paid out. Since then, the people of Nicaragua have been protesting and demanding for his resignation from office. There have been 78 deaths, 865 inured, 565 people put in prison and 85 people still unaccounted for since the violence has started. Much looting and destruction has happened, literally shutting down the economy in Nicaragua. Tourism has shut down which is 45% of the total economic income for Nicaragua. In just one month, the country has lost $673 million in revenue and income.

People need immediate help, so a board member of the VOSH/BASIC group has decided to travel to Nicaragua to feed and pray for the families. The organization is hoping to provide basic food packs to 600 families in the village. A basic food pack for a month roughly costs $30. This includes staples like rice, fruits, vegetables and beans. Therefore, we are asking for donations to be made to help pay for these packs. Even a small donation would be much appreciated.

Thank you so much for your assistance in helping the plight of the Nicaraguan people.
