My name is Roy Lujan Jr, the youngest of three. My brothers are Robert and Gilbert Lujan, and my parents are Joe and Bertha Lujan. In January of 2025, my father, Joe Roy Lujan, was diagnosed with mucosal melanoma, a rare, aggressive form of melanoma that develops in the mucous membranes (moist surfaces) of the body, rather than the skin, and is often difficult to detect early.
My father has been a pillar of his neighborhood, where he has lived since the '60s with my mother, Bertha Lujan. He was a successful businessman, owning his own roofing business for over 35 years. Through the years, he developed bonds and relationships with everybody he came in contact with. Over 20 years ago, my father changed his lifestyle, quitting smoking, drinking, and eating unhealthy, and devoted himself to his Christian beliefs.
In 2021, my parents lost their son and my brother unexpectedly due to a major heart attack. My parents are the most caring and loving people you will ever meet. In 2022, both my parents devoted their lives to living a disciplined Christian life, both baptized in their beliefs. It's unknown why the best of people are tested under these circumstances, but they are holding strong in their faith.
My dad retired from roofing and has been a crossing guard for 12 years in the neighborhood where we grew up and the school both my brothers and I attended as children. I am raising money for them to pay off the remaining out-of-pocket balances that their insurance did not cover. My parents would never accept anything from anyone; instead, they have given their entire lives as they continue to give to their community and to the church where they belong. I am asking for your support to relieve some of the stress and challenges this situation has brought to our family in this challenging and difficult time. Thank you in advance, and I appreciate your support.
