Hello friends and kind hearts,
My name is Elsa. I'm a widow, a mom, a teacher, and today I'm reaching out with deep humility in a moment of real need.
Years ago, I lost my husband, who served as a captain in the military. Since then, I've raised my two children—now young adults—on my own. It hasn't been easy, but through hard work, faith, and love, we've come this far together.
My daughter Johany is preparing to start college this August, and my son is entering his final year of university. As a full-time teacher, I'm proud of what we've been able to achieve, but this summer has brought overwhelming challenges.
My mother, who is in Honduras, is in the final stages of a difficult battle with metastatic cancer that has spread to her liver, kidneys, and spleen. I urgently need to travel to be by her side during this time, to honor her, care for her, and say goodbye.
At the same time, we're preparing for Johany's transition to college, which comes with many expenses—housing deposits, school supplies, travel, and basic essentials. We are carefully managing every step of her enrollment and immigration process, and I'm doing everything I can to make sure she begins this chapter well-prepared and fully supported.
Because I'm a teacher, I don't receive a paycheck during the summer months, and with the added costs of travel, family responsibilities, and college-related expenses, I've reached a place where I can't do it all on my own.
That's why, after much thought and with the encouragement of my close friends, I've created this GoFundMe. If you feel moved to help—whether through a donation, a kind word, or by sharing this with others—please know it would mean the world to me and my family.
Your support will go toward:
- Urgent travel expenses to be with my mother in Honduras
- College-related costs to help Johany start strong in her first semester
- Basic living expenses while I'm without income during the summer
This is not easy for me to ask. But I believe in the kindness of others, and I know I'm not alone in this journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with us.
With all my gratitude,
Elsa
