Stand by David: A Firefighter's Cancer Battle
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for support for someone who has always been the one helping others—my dad, David.
For over 20 years, my dad has served as a firefighter and paramedic. He’s fought structure fires, responded to wildland calls, and saved countless lives. But now, the very job that shaped his life and purpose is the reason he’s facing the biggest battle of his life.
Recently, he was diagnosed with occupational prostate cancer—something linked to toxic chemical exposure through his firefighter gear (PPE). On top of the physical toll, the diagnosis has triggered severe anxiety and panic attacks, something that has deeply affected both his health and his ability to work.
This has changed his life overnight. From being a dedicated father, husband, and first responder always ready to jump into action, he now finds himself overwhelmed with medical appointments—for both his cancer and his mental health. After exploring multiple treatment paths, including radiation, and getting several second opinions, he’s made the brave decision to undergo a prostatectomy. His surgery is scheduled for the 21st of this month.
Recovery for a typical person might be six weeks, but for someone in such a physically demanding job, it may be much longer. And unfortunately, firefighting doesn’t pay as much as people think—especially when most of his income comes from overtime. Missing work has put a huge financial strain on our family, and workers' comp has been slow and insufficient.
My dad has always been the provider, the protector, and the one everyone turns to in a crisis. He’s worked tirelessly to give me and my younger siblings the best life possible—showing up for us even after 24-hour shifts, even when he’s exhausted. Now it’s our turn to show up for him.
This GoFundMe is to help ease the financial burden while he heals. It’s to help cover medical bills, everyday expenses, and to give our family a bit of breathing room. I also want to make sure my younger siblings can keep doing their sports and activities—things that help them stay grounded and feel normal during this really hard time at home.
If you can give anything—whether it's $1, $10, or even just a share—it would mean so much. Every bit helps, and every act of kindness brings us closer to getting our dad back on his feet, and hopefully, back in a fire truck doing what he loves.
Thank you for your compassion, your support, and for being part of this fight with us.
