Hi, my name is Diane ( my sister is writing for me)
I am 53, have Downs Syndrome and have recently lost my ability to walk. I am very sad to not be able to go upstairs in my house. I miss sitting in the kitchen drinking coffee, eating at the table and enjoying family time like I used to....
My bedroom is down stairs now because it is impossible for me to climb stairs.
I get lonely now but living downstairs is the only way I can leave the house in the wheel chair...
My sister has exhausted all avenues as medical suppliers and the Ministry of Social Development do not fund stair lifts.
Unfortunately the less expensive Acorn type lifts will not work for me because there is a landing between flights of stairs where I would need to be transfered to a 2nd lift. This would be a safety issue and the chance of falling down the stairs would be very high.
Any help for me to rejoin my family upstairs would mean the world to me!
