Stacey's Sanctuary: A safe home for women leaving violence
Donation protected
I have just purchased my first home, but I will not be living in it.
Stacey's Sanctuary is for domestic violence victims needing a step-up as they save money for a permanent rental.
Abuse perpetrators often murder women after their victims have been denied access to housing.
Women may be refused housing for a number of reasons, including not being considered at high enough risk; not having employment; or simply due to a lack of housing stock.
Stacey's Sanctuary is located in inner Melbourne, with easy access to public transport and the city.
Victoria has the highest rate of femicide in 2025. Despite this, it is one of the hardest places in the country to gain low-cost transitional housing.
Stacey's Sanctuary is named after nine-year-old Stacey-Ann Tracy, who was murdered by my stepfather in 1990.
This project is part of my commitment to ensuring her name - and legacy - lives on.
I've paid for the apartment in full and the keys will be handed over on September 15, 2025.
I need your help! Please consider donating to help me undertake renovations, fully furnish the apartment, add CCTV and alarms; and meet all other costs to ensure each woman has the time they need to save money for their own permanent homes.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE TARGET IS MET?
Anything raised over the $30,000 will be used to cover ongoing outgoings associated with the Sanctuary, including provision of NBN, power and gas at no cost to the women living in the property.
WILL THE APARTMENT BE SOLD?
In terms of the property value increase due to renovations, I would like to ensure everyone the aim is to keep the apartment in my hands until my (very far off) death. After my death, the apartment will be held in trust to fund the ongoing maintenance and growth of The RED HEART Campaign's Memorial to Women and Children Lost to Violence - ensuring my work - and the legacy of Stacey-Ann and Sandra Dorothy Bacon (who was also murdered by my stepfather) - continues.
