STABRON 20, a group of Navy veterans from a Vietnam River Division, have been meeting every two years in Gatlinburg. As the group is aging and some of the men are suffering from ailments that prevent them from travel, the reunion has become somewhat burdensome for those who are on a fixed income. Members have formed a committee over the years to find ways to make the accommodations more affordable with amenities that allow them to have their meals together, share stories and memories, and create new ones together.
This year's reunion costs have grown much higher, which will leave some of these veterans unable to make the trip. Many veterans drive to Gatlinburg from around the country to save the cost of airfare.
The STABRON 20 (Strike Assault Boat Squadron) group is made up of men who served in the Brown Water Navy in 1970 in Vietnam and Cambodia.
This reunion is very healing to these brave men who left behind four of their brothers. Sisters of one man who was killed attend the reunion each time, as this group considers everyone a part of their family. Raising money for those who can no longer afford to make the journey and keep costs down for those who do make the trip would be a blessing for these brave men who served their country when needed.
Pictured above are the veterans who attended the reunion in 2017 on an actual STAB boat that was preserved and brought to Gatlinburg by John Jadwinski.
