Our names are Gene and Suzanna Moody, and we are reaching out with a plea from the deepest part of our hearts. After much thought, we have decided to fight for custody of our granddaughter, Laikyn, who is living in a home that is not safe for her emotionally or mentally.

She is currently in an environment where she is regularly subjected to harsh words, constant filth, and verbal attacks. She is told things no child should ever hear—words that make her feel small, unwanted, and unloved. The emotional abuse she experiences has already shown signs of trauma. She has regressed with potty training, has no early childhood education and has even shown instances of self harm. She is 3 going on 4.

On top of that, her living situation has been unstable for years. She has been moved from house to house, never knowing where she will end up next, and she has never had a room of her own—except when she is with us. In our home, she has her own space, her own bed, and the comfort of knowing she belongs. We want her to feel that sense of safety and stability every single day, not just when she visits.

I understand her pain more than most because I went through similar things growing up. I know the scars that emotional and verbal abuse can leave. What helped me through those dark times was knowing that I had loved ones who truly cared for me—that I wasn’t alone. That love gave me strength and hope. And that is exactly what we want our granddaughter to feel every single day: safe, supported, and deeply loved.

Why We’re Asking for Help

We are ready to give her the safe, stable, and loving home she needs to heal and grow. But the legal battle to gain custody is incredibly expensive. Attorney fees, court costs, custody evaluations, and related expenses are overwhelming for us to handle on our own. Without financial help, we cannot move forward quickly enough to protect her from the harmful environment she is in now.
