St Peter's Castletownbere Sponsor a Slate Campaign

Castletownbere Development Centre will begin work on refurbishing St Peter’s – the former Church of Ireland parish church – as a community events centre in February 2025.

This project will complement the recent development of the grounds of St Peter’s as a community garden and meeting place.

St Peter’s stands at the heart of Castletownbere and will serve the entire community on the Beara peninsula.

We invited students from Beara Community School to outline their hopes for how St Peter’s can serve the youth of Beara.

A theatre, a concert venue, and an activities centre are just some of their suggestions.

Already, various community groups and societies are committed to using St Peter’s for performances, talks and exhibitions, and our intention is that the venue will provide these services and so much more for generations to come.

We estimate the refurbishment of St Peter’s will cost €350,000 in total.

The CDA was recently awarded €45,000 in CLÁR funding towards the project, and we await word on further funding applications. We expect to be awarded a total of €200,000 in grants.

We must also raise €150,000 ourselves.

As we launch our fundraising campaign for St Peter’s, our first goal is to raise €50,000 towards Phase 1: Re-roofing and securing the exterior of the premises.

We ask all our supporters - in Beara and beyond – to contribute to our Sponsor a Slate Campaign!

There are more than 3,000 slates on the roof.

Each slate is €25.

However, no donation is too big or too small.

All donations will be gratefully received, and every sponsor will be listed on a scroll of honour in St Peter’s.
