St. Marys West Derby Appeal
Donation protected
During the late afternoon of Friday 30th May, The Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin, The Parish Church of West Derby village, vandals attacked the historic gothic church adjacent to the entrance to Croxteth Park in Liverpool.
The culprits had scaled scaffolding set up to repair water damaged parts of the church. Vandals extensively damaged a 170 year-old window seemingly with a chunk of wood. The resulting damage is far beyond the financial reach of the small but active congregation of St.Marys to make meaningful repairs.
SHE NEEDS YOUR HELP!
St. Mary’s beautiful red sandstone tower has stood watch since 1856 over the daily comings and goings of the people of Liverpool through good times and bad. After Lord Sefton established Croxteth Park for use by the people of Liverpool the church has been a comforting and welcoming champion to everyone using the entrance path. Her congregation has faithfully maintained her clock as a working timepiece and her bells to toll the hours of the city’s history.
St. Mary’s church remains an iconic Liverpool landmark that is in danger of being destroyed by lack of resources to make necessary repairs to keep her vital into the next generation.
