St Joe’s has always been more than just a club.

For decades it has been a place where friendships were formed, celebrations were held and songs were sung. Where people came together in the good times and the bad. It has been woven into the fabric of Luton’s Irish community — and the town more broadly — for generations.

In recent years, the old place has been through a difficult period. Neglectful management saw the building decline to a point where it was no longer deemed fit to remain open, and further operational issues meant there was no credible plan for reopening. To their credit, the Diocese of Northampton — as owners of the building — made the swift decision to return management of the club to the St Joseph’s community.

A new Community Interest Company — St Joseph’s Parish Centre 2026 — has now been formed to lease the site and take the centre forward.

It’s an exciting opportunity. But also a daunting one.

Before the doors can reopen, there are essential works to complete — safety certifications, compliance requirements and long-needed repairs. On the administrative side, a new entity requires new bank accounts, licensing and insurance before we can even begin restocking a cellar that, for the first time in fifty years, doesn’t contain a single barrel of Guinness.

We are starting from scratch. But we are absolutely determined to rebuild better.

Our aim is to create a vibrant, welcoming community home proud of its roots but with a modern outlook. Somewhere that can once again host music and sport, family events and functions, parish gatherings and cultural nights — just as it has done so memorably for so many years.

We have a genuine opportunity to turn a difficult chapter into a positive one — to build something stronger, more open and truly community-led.

If St Joseph’s has ever meant something to you, or if you believe in the value of a thriving community space in Luton, we would love you to be part of this next chapter.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps lay the foundations for a centre that can serve the community long into the future.

Up the Joes!

** All donations will be paid directly into the bank account of St Joseph's Parish Centre Community Interest Company (Reg 17030119), an asset-locked entity, legally obliged to support the club as a community asset.

Funds will be used for building repairs and renovations and the costs of establishing a new trading operation.
