St Declan's Way Pilgrim Path
Please support the historic St Declans Way walking trail and its voluntary management committee
The historic St. Declan’s Way walking trail has long been part of the heritage and folklore of West Waterford and South Tipperary. The trail recalls journeys made by Declan in the fifth century from his monastery in Ardmore northwards to Cashel.
Thanks to significant voluntary effort over the last few years the trail has been renewed and reopened. Old laneways were cleared, new signs replaced old ones and all trail infrastructure is now in place. The trail was officially approved by Sport Ireland in July 2021.
With a huge interest in pilgrim trails nationally and internationally, St. Declan’s Way has the potential to be a great asset to tourism, business and communities. Indeed, feedback so far from walkers and businesses along the trail has been very positive.
The St. Declan’s Way Management Committee spearheaded work to reopen the trail. The committee’s attention is now turning to future management, maintenance and marketing. We are seeking support to help make this trail Ireland's best pilgrim walking experience.
