In May of 2025, the St. Cyr trails, an important part of the Meadow Lake community for the past 45 years, tragically lost its chalet to fire. Thankfully, the trails themselves were undamaged.
Unfortunately, the timing of this fire could not be worse, as the club prepares to host the cross-country ski events for the 2026 Sask Winter Games. This is a great opportunity to increase visibility and show the province the boreal beauty right in our backyard.
Our chalet has been used as a place to stay warm during ski lessons, hosting movie nights, a meeting place for apres ski events, and much more. It is imperative to have a shelter for kids to warm up during the Winter Games, as well as for all of our winter activities.
Volunteers have worked tirelessly throughout the summer and fall to prepare the trails for the Games, yet we do still need a physical building to make everything come together. We have used volunteer power to prep the site with cleaning up the debris, removing burned trees, and filling and flattening the ground. As the weather changes, so too does time run short, and it’s now a race against the snow to get a building up. We have solid plans, but everything costs money.
That’s where you, our community, comes in. The Sask Winter Games has provided a portion of the funds we need to rebuild the chalet, and it’s a solid start! There are multiple ways you can contribute: 1) Here, on this GoFundMe, 2) as a business by contacting us via email or social media, 3) and/or by purchasing an annual membership. Memberships are $40/individual, $75/couple, $85/family, and $125/school or organization. These can be purchased by e-transferring to our email.
St. Cyr Trails Club offers many activities throughout the year, including hiking, biking, birding, foraging, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. There’s something for everyone, and we hope you’ll join us in making our 50th anniversary year the best one yet!
