St Christopher's Action Network Campaign Fund
Donation protected
Hello neighbours!
We are SCAN - the St Christopher's Action Network and we are campaigning for sensitive and appropriate development of the St Christopher's site in Westbury Park.
And we need your help to make it the best campaign possible. Every penny will go into our 'fighting fund' - initially we plan to spend it on start-up and on going admin costs like printing flyers, setting up a website and designing a logo. In the future we may need to consider funding expert professional advice - planning consultants and lawyers.
This fund is run by a group of neighbours, community groups and local businesses working proactively to challenge developers with their current proposals which we believe amount to substantial over development.
We aim to amplify the voices of those who care about this valued and special green site and who want to enhance, not destroy, the Westbury Park environment.
Current drawings show plans to build up to 7 multi storey apartment blocks - one as high as six storeys. Developers also plan to cut down around 50% of the large, mature trees that make the site green and special - and attract varied wildlife - including a loud owl and a noisy woodpecker!
Nobody at SCAN objects to the site being developed, if it is done sensitively. But this doesn’t look like the “eco” project that was promised by developers. The buildings are much higher and denser than we were led to believe - dwarfing most homes in the area.
So we need to work together to push for a better plan; one that genuinely benefits the community, and doesn't threaten road safety for our local families, children and old people, doesn't contribute to our already pressured traffic and parking problems and doesn't lead to a decrease in the biodiversity of this natural wildlife haven by chopping down trees and scaring off wildlife.
Please join our cause - give what you can so we can work on your behalf to make sure the St Christopher's site is developed for the community - and not for excess profit .
Please leave a message here if you would like to know more or sign up to our newsletter.
Please note that Dave Jones is our treasurer and has very kindly agreed to manage all the donations and expenditure on behalf of SCAN.
