St Albans Civic Society is a registered charity run by volunteers through an elected committee and advisory groups. It is non-profit-making and has no political or religious connections. Its primary role is to keep an eye on the City’s heritage, its buildings and the characteristics that make St Albans a great place to live, work and visit. It calls for informed debate on what’s best and works with planners, conservationists, residents and experts to ensure special buildings, open spaces and features are preserved and new developments have smart design, high build quality and a positive social and environmental impact. Right now, it’s our democratic future which is under threat. We think the move to a unitary authority in 2028 will undermine local democracy and we are working hard to ensure the continuation of a strong local voice for St Albans.
