Help Our Family
Donation protected
In 2015, my son was visiting us for the weekend (he was 9 years old), and he was helping me pile up some sticks in our field to burn. I went to throw a branch into the pile and didn't see him beside/behind me. The branch made contact with his face and left small scratches. My son's mother filed assault charges against me, and filed for a protective order. I went to trial for the assault and was found not guilty, but the protective order stood (because less proof is required). The result was that I lost all contact with my son immediately. We spent several years fighting this and eventually the protective order was dropped. We were ordered to pay all their attorney's fees for this time period. This happened twice. The first time they were awarded $33K. We have already paid that. Then recently they were awarded another $43K. We could not afford to pay and they would not accept reasonable payments so they filed for a garnishment in the amount of 25% of my paycheck. This is on top of the $850/month that I already pay in child support and the many thousands of dollars I have paid to my own attorney. We know it is a long shot, but we are asking for help from our family and friends to pay this off.
