Residents for Black Lives

Tax deductible
To the Medical community of Physicians and Residents, both at Stanford and beyond:

As physicians we see the effects of structural violence and racism play out every day. Yet still, the recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery are shocking; coupled with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis where underserved populations have been disproportionately affected, it can feel hopeless especially given that we witness these disparities once they have manifested their downstream effects of illness and suffering.

However, just because we care for patients that have already experienced health disparities doesn’t mean that we can’t get involved in preventing disparities as well. These moments bring awareness, but we must act to transition from awareness to sustainable action. It is critical to harness this moment of fury, pain and energy to create sustained change. One way to do that is by contributing to organizations that are changing the underlying conditions leading to discrimination and inequalities.

Together we can be part of transitioning this from a moment to a movement.

Investing in organizations that try to address the underlying issues that lead to disparities is crucial to moving society forward where everyone can get access to quality care, economic advancement and healthy living conditions regardless of their racial demographic or background. I’ve personally decided to take action and donate to The Southern Poverty Law Center.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and seeks justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy, the Center works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality.

In memory of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many other black lives that have been lost, please consider joining me in contributing to these causes.
