Last year in 2019 my friend Elle, her daughter Linn and I traveled to the magical Island of Sri Lanka for our Christmas break . A paradise that had been going through decades of war and many political and natural disaster struggles. We found a land that was prosperous and booming with tourism, magical vibes and smiling people all day long. Many of the fishing and forest communities we visited had been transformed into tourist destinations and their communities ( that are mostly owned by the villagers) completely now dependent upon foreigners to come visit and stay in their cabanas and small family run hotels and restaurants.
I have traveled a lot in my life but I have to say the Lankans are among the friendliest people I have ever met and part of my heart was left on the Island.
I have during the Corona crisis sent some of my own money to some children and families I meet during my stay. They have nothing and the government hardly helps them at all. I would love this Christmas to help more. I have this dream to give a Christmas gift that means something to villages and children that need a little extra this season. At this time of year the Southern province of Sri Lanka should have been overfilled with tourists, but instead the beaches and restaurants are empty or closed and many Lankans are dealing with hunger and uncertainties. Many Children can't go to school and factories are shut.
I just want us all to give a little so that we can put a smile on some families faces, food on their tables and school books for the little ones. Maybe even some candy for the children?
Please help me help them get a little extra cheer this holiday.
In this Gofund me I would like to donate to the families Marakolliya Village in Tangalle, where we stayed last year and to the "Kind Hearted Lankans "an Organization that I love and trust.
