We're excited to share our upcoming adventure with you! A group of us from SRC will be rowing a whopping 26 miles down the River Thames on October 12th to raise funds for an amazing cause.

Let us introduce you to the Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre (SBOAC), a hidden gem near our SRC offices along the East London riverside. In 1976, passionate local parents and leaders transformed a derelict dock into the vibrant SBOAC. They offer safe yet exhilarating sports, both on and off the water, for people of all abilities. But it's not just about outdoor activities, it's about pushing boundaries, finding courage in oneself, and forging life-long friendships.

In an area where child poverty rates hit a heart-breaking 56%, this oasis provides a lifeline. Children with disabilities find a warm embrace here, where specialised staff and adapted equipment create a safe space for adventure. Autism, sight impairments, wheelchair use – these are not barriers, but gateways to a world where everyone can thrive.

We're not just rowing for the thrill of it. We're rowing for a future where these opportunities continue to blossom. SBOAC relies on a small but dedicated team of staff and trustees to secure its annual operating budget. The economic climate hasn't been kind, but we're determined to weather the storm and ensure this haven remains open to those who need it most.

While big charities do incredible work, it's the small, grassroots organisations that often have the deepest impact on their communities. They're the heartbeats of our neighbourhoods, making a direct difference in the lives of those around us.
