This Holiday Season we will be collecting gently used and new skateboard gear to donate to our friends in African nations, where skateboard equipment is hard to come by. Our goal is to provide 3 social skateboard organizations with 10 complete skateboards!
This past October, Shred.Co was invited to attend the first Goodpush Global Summit for Social Skateboarding in Johannesburg South Africa. During our time at the Goodpush summit we made personal connections and formed lifelong friendships with skaters from around the world! Several of these new friends run powerful skateboard organizations across rural Africa, where there are no skate shops so getting boards and skate equipment is extremely difficult. The skaters there are resourceful and make the most of what they have, often crafting handmade skateboards out of planks of wood and old roller skates.
For the next month skate shops, Underground, Travel and NJ, will help in collecting new and used skateboard equipment to ship out to these three regions. We are looking in particular for trucks, bearings, wheels, and hardware, but anything helps! Our goal is 30 complete skateboards, and with your help that is a totally attainable goal! The equipment raised will go directly into the hands of our friends running social skateboarding projects in the African Nations of Zambia, Angola and Zimbabwe. Specifically Johnny Kalanga of We Skate Mongu, Jesse Mendes of the Angola Skateboard Union and Chenai Gwandure of Skate Zimbabwe.
This GoFundMe campaign is set to aid in the cost of shipping and freight. Shipping to these 3 remote regions adds up to about $1,000 per region. With your help we are sure make this happen! Any surplus revenue will purchase helmets, pads and safety equipment for the African youth!
