Hi and welcome!
We are two extended families from British Columbia, and we are sponsoring a family of six refugees who are looking to make a new home in our town of Chilliwack, British Columbia.
The family consists of two parents (ages 32 - 34), three young daughters (ages 3-11), and one son (age 10). The situation for this family has become dire since the Taliban took control of Aghanistan in August of 2021. They are no longer safe due to their previous work with Western humanitarian organizations, and they have received active death threats. The mother has lost her job due to her gender, and the daughters are no longer able to attend school.
We have gotten to know this family over the past 2 years as we went through the long sponsorship application process - they are warm and hardworking people who are incredibly grateful to be coming to Canada. While we wish we could provide more specific details, due to ongoing safety concerns, this is not presently possible and we have to keep their identities confidential.
How to Help:
- Financial Donation: As a sponsorship team we are committed to financially supporting the family for a full year, and this includes covering their rent and utilities, food, clothing for the Canadian climate, transit etc. We are kindly requesting either monthly contributions or upfront donations to help with this commitment. Donations of any amount would be very much appreciated. Every dollar raised will be held in trust and will be used only to support the family once they've arrived in Chilliwack, and any additional funds raised will go to help them prepare for their second year in Canada.
- In-kind Donation: We will provide them a furnished home upon their arrival. Ask us about donating furniture, clothing, etc.
- Time Commitment: We will be driving them to appointments, helping with career searches, language training, school enrollment, government paperwork, community events etc. Reach out if you're interested in donating your time and expertise!
