Hi, my name is Keara and Camps International has given me the once in a lifetime opportunity to go on an expedition to Cambodia in 2025 for a month. This is a huge privilege for me as it has always been high on my bucket list to travel, and even better this opportunity has given me the chance not only to travel, but to get immersed in the cultures of Cambodia and to help its locals and environment in various volunteering projects!
What I will be doing whilst in Cambodia:
Whilst in Cambodia I will be taking part in three main activities
- Volunteering: The first will be volunteering in vital community projects with the aim to improve the quality of life for locals. For example, of some of the many projects include building new school facilities e.g. kitchens and accommodation for teachers, improving the welfare of teachers and students to overall improve their education and quality of life. Projects also include building community toilet block installations and bridges. There are also environmental volunteering opportunities to help to preserve Cambodia's precious and wonderful environment such as reforestation programmes - which aim to replenish the forests that have been ravaged by commercial deforestation.
- Culture: After completing our volunteering efforts, we will be given the amazing chance to explore Cambodia's culture and turbulent history with a tour around the breath-taking UNESCO world heritage site Angkor Wat (a must for any bucket list!) and visiting the S21 killing fields.
- Adventure: Finally, there is the adventure aspect of the expedition! For me this would include a scuba diving experience to help me achieve a PADI open water scuba diving qualification.
Fundraising:
To start to fundraise for my expedition to Cambodia, I am sponsored my tandem skydive from a whopping 15,000ft! I have chosen to use this skydive as a fundraiser as it is an action-packed fundraiser for an action-packed expedition! Not only this but it is certainly challenging and will definitely push me out of my comfort zone - much like how my expedition will do.
During the time between the events, I am planning smaller events such as car boot sales and many other things.
