Hi, my name is Bernice, I am part of the amazing team at SARAC (Sexual Abuse & Rape Advice Centre) working to support survivors of sexual abuse, rape, violence and trauma.
SARAC offer free, confidential counselling, advocacy, and a listening ear when it’s needed most.
Every day, survivors of sexual & domestic abuse, rape, and violence live with the weight of trauma—often in silence. The impact of that trauma is deep, long-lasting, and profoundly personal. It doesn’t just disappear. It affects mental health, relationships, work, and the ability to feel safe.
That’s where SARAC comes in!
SARAC provides free, confidential support to anyone affected by abuse—regardless of when it happened. Whether the trauma is recent or decades old, they’re there to listen, to believe, and to help survivors begin to heal.
SARAC offer:
- Specialist counselling for survivors and their families.
- Advocacy and guidance through the legal system.
- Crisis support for those in immediate need.
- Safe, non-judgmental spaces where survivors are heard.
- Support groups
- and training to help others spot the signs that someone may need help.
SARAC isn’t just about support—it’s about mental health and healing.
Survivors of sexual violence are far more likely to struggle with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and self-harm.
Did you know that, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 20 men in the UK experience sexual assault during their lifetime. Around 70% of sexual assault survivors report symptoms of PTSD. Sexual violence survivors are 4 times more likely to attempt suicide.
These aren’t just numbers. They represent people—many of whom feel completely alone. SARAC changes that. Their support gives people the tools to cope, to recover, and, eventually, to reclaim their lives.
This work relies on funding. SARAC are a small, independent charity, and they rely on donations to keep going.
Every counselling session, every answered phone call, and every act of kindness comes from the generosity of others
This September a fitting tribute to the bravery it takes to speak out and begin healing after trauma. I will be taking on a tandem skydive to raise money and I’d love your support!
