Stop Human Trafficking with Love146

We are the Miller family. We believe that above all, love is the most important thing. We're not perfect, we make mistakes and we don't always love the best we should. However, we try to love others as God would love us. The center of our home is our dining room table. I hand painted this table years ago. The words in Pennsylvania Dutch mean, "To love and to be loved is the greatest joy on earth." This is our family's mission and we hope that you will join us in our journey to love.

This mission is the reason that we are embarking on an epic cross-country road trip to raise funds and awareness in the fight against human trafficking. The problem is bigger than you might think and closer to home than you realize. Alan will be crossing the country from Ocean City, MD to Eureka, CA and back again on motorcycle while the kids and I travel with a support vehicle behind him. This is more than just a vacation and more than just a journey. It's something that has been burning in Alan's heart for quite a while.

Several years ago, Alan began to have a burning desire to ride/own a motorcycle. Alan is a relaxed, quiet person and doesn't ask for a lot. He's typically a "go with the flow" kind of guy so when he's persistent about something, there's usually a good reason. He began setting aside motorcycle money and attending riding classes. He got his motorcycle license and bought his first Harley. In between these preparations, we watched the movie, "The World's Fastest Indian," the story of Burt Munro, a 68 year old man with a dream to ride his customized Indian Scout motorcycle on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. People told him he was crazy but against all odds, he did it! Mr. Munro set a land speed record on August 26, 1967. This record still holds today. Interestingly, this record was set the very day that my husband Alan was born!

We're not interested in setting any world records, but the movie did inspire Alan to follow a dream. He had a dream to ride across the USA coast to coast. We only have one life to live and Alan realized that if he didn't pursue this dream, he would regret it forever. However, Alan didn't want this dream to be only about him. Many years ago, I heard a speaker say, "Your destiny is where your greatest passion and the hearbeat of God meet." I believe that this is true. Enter: Love 146.

Click here to learn more about Love 146. They support people who are at risk of or have been victims of human trafficking. This is a horrible, horrible problem in this world and one that we cannot tolerate. The mission of Love 146 is indeed the place where "Our greatest passion and the heartbeat of God meet." Whatever your beliefs, whatever your religion, we can all agree that the abuse connected to human trafficking is just plain WRONG! It is absolutely not OK and we cannot stay silent!

My role is to drive the support vehicle (my Mitsubishi Outlander) pulling a small trailer to carry our essentials. Our kiddos, ages 15, 13, 11 and 9 will accompany us on this journey alternately taking turns riding the Indian with Dad and keeping Mom company. It is important to us that the children be able to participate in the journey. We want our children to realize that there is a world out there much bigger than our little town. We want them to get off line and get into people's lives while supporting a cause that affects so many others.

We will tent camp as much as possible. We also hope to connect with friends and supporters along the way. Our itinerary is posted on our Facebook page, Spirit of the Scout. We'd love to connect with you, sleep on your floor, share a meal or even speak to a group to raise some funds for the organization.

While the primary purpose of the trip is to raise money for Love 146, our own family has a financial need as well. Alan will have to take off work (partially unpaid), we need to purchase a trailer, camping supples, gas for the vehicle, camping fees, etc, etc. Therefore, our fundraising is in two parts. If you'd like to donate money directly to Love 146, you can click here. However, if you'd be willing to support our family on this journey, please consider making a donation to our GoFundMe. Our goal is $6800.00 I am a very thrifty momma so I don't think we will require all of that in the end. After our expenses are covered, I promise you that 100% of any leftover funds will go directly to Love 146.

We appreciate your love and support, not just for us, but for the many people who will be helped by Love 146. Please subscribe to our blog, facebook page, and YouTube channel. As we travel, we will be posting short videos and daily diaries to keep our supporters up to date. Thank you!!!!
