Spencer Linenberg's Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
My name is Spencer Linenberg and I am a member of Boy Scout Troop 77 in Westfield, NJ. I will soon be starting my Eagle Scout Project, which will entail building an entrance for the Dunham Avenue Bird Sanctuary in Westfield, New Jersey.
The Dunham Avenue Bird Sanctuary occupies a forest bordered by the houses along Summit Avenue, Dunham Avenue and Tice Place. As a nesting site for many birds in the area, the sanctuary is a peaceful, secluded space owned by the town and open to the public. However, in its current state, most people living in Westfield do not know that the Dunham Avenue Bird Sanctuary even exists. My project’s goal is to raise awareness for the sanctuary by building a gravel path and patio area leading to its main entrance off of Summit Avenue. This development will also include a bench, a board with information on the birds living in the sanctuary, and an entrance sign. The bench will be anchored to the ground so that it cannot be moved or tipped over by anyone.
This past April, I presented and received approval for my plan from the Westfield Town Council. The town believes that my project will make an excellent addition to the area and serve as a basis for future Eagle Scout Projects that benefit the bird sanctuary.
The project will cost approximately $4,200 in total, which will cover the bench, signage, edging, and other materials necessary for installation of the path, patio and anchors tethering the bench to the ground. My hope is to finish construction in August and reach my fundraising goal in September.
Please consider donating to my project! Your support is much appreciated.
