Help Us Welcome a Refugee Family to Virginia
Donation protected
Friends, we recently joined the Welcome Corps to help resettle a refugee family in Virginia this fall! Through your partnership, we will provide the family with financial support for their first few months in the United States, and help them find housing, employment, healthcare, and cultural connections in their new community.
We’ve named our sponsor group the Sparrow Sisters because we’re a group of nine women (“sisters”) who have prayerfully partnered together to welcome a new family to the United States. We’ve found deep fellowship and friendship through our common values of hospitality and compassion toward families seeking safety - and sparrows are a symbol of friendship. What’s more, a group of sparrows is called a “host”, and we’re deeply committed to hosting a refugee family this fall. But we need your help.
Will you join us in welcoming a newcomer family to northern Virginia by donating and/or sharing our fundraiser?
Help us reach our goal of $8,000!
- $10 will provide for basic household necessities, such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and feminine hygiene products
- $20 will provide essential kitchen items and cleaning supplies
- $50 will cover a month of WiFi
- $150 will stock the pantry for a week or fully load a Washington Metro (WMATA) card for a month
- $500 will provide the children with school supplies for the year
- $1,000 will provide second-hand large furniture items (e.g., beds, sofa, dining room table)
- $2,000 will cover one month’s rent

Can I support in ways other than giving money?
Yes! We greatly appreciate your prayers, encouraging words, and good vibes throughout this process. Additionally, if you live in the DC area and have *new or gently used* in-kind donations such as bedroom or living room furniture, essential kitchen items, etc., please reach out to one of our sponsor group members.
