Southborough Community Free Fridge
Donation protected
We are raising funds for a community wide free fridge to be located at St. Mark's Church at 27 Main Street in Southborough. We are very lucky to have Matt Coady of Coady Built onboard for the design and build out of the structure, but we still need to raise funds to cover the material costs for the structure and the garage-ready fridge.
We know that roughly 3% or 228 members of the Southborough population live below the poverty line which is $12,880 for a single person and $26,500 for a family of four. In addition to those defined as living “below the poverty line,” another 313 live in the band above ($25-50k/year) illustrating that Southborough has an additional vulnerable group of people and families in the levels above the poverty line who may not qualify for government programs and whose lives would be improved by additional access to healthy foods.
Further, food insecurity has become more pronounced during the COVID-19 pandemic, with people choosing to go hungry to meet rent, pay for prescriptions, or simply because they don't have enough money at the end of the month. Recognizing that some people and their families make just enough not to qualify for assistance, we want to help make food available to them 24/7, dignity first, no questions asked.
You can contact Jessica Levenson to sign up to donate building supplies and help stock and care for our community fridge at [email redacted] <dot> com. (Please cut, paste, and edit!)
All donations will go directly to pay for the fridge, building supplies, and paint. Any amount exceeding our goal will be deposited into a future non-profit for the community fridge for food and hygiene products.
Thanks for your help! We look forward to making a difference in our community.
