We are organising a memorial event to honour those affected by the South Hallsville School disaster, which occurred on 10th September 1940.
Help Us Honour the Victims of the South Hallsville School Disaster
On 10th September 1940, during the darkest days of the Blitz, hundreds of civilians sought shelter at South Hallsville School in Canning Town. Tragically, the school was hit during a bombing raid, resulting in the deaths of many innocent men, women, and children. It remains one of the most devastating — yet often forgotten — tragedies of the Second World War on British soil.
This year marks the 85th anniversary of the disaster. We are organising a memorial event on Sunday, 7th September 2025 at East London Cemetery, Grange Road, to honour those who lost their lives and support the families and communities still affected by the legacy of this event.
Your donations will go directly towards:
• Creating a dignified memorial service
• Floral tributes and commemorative items
• Archival displays and historical materials
• Refreshments for attendees and any support for survivors or relatives who attend
Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us preserve the memory of those who suffered and ensure their stories are not forgotten.
Please help us mark this important moment in our history with the respect and remembrance it deserves.
Thank you for your support.
Lest we forget
