Souper Jenny Kindness Tour #3 - Backyard Edition
Donation protected
The latest chapter of the Souper Jenny Kindness Tour has led us... here. Nearby. Our own backyard of Atlanta. Oh, we pondered a trip to Poland, to help feed the Ukrainian Refugees through World Central Kitchen. We felt a palpable pull to Uvalde, to in some way lend comfort and care. Strive as we may, it just did not work out.
But these last few days have led us thru an unmarked side door, where we met three families from Kharkiv, Ukraine. They fled their homes, for their very lives. They left loved ones, careers, friends, all their material possessions. All their stuff. Trekked thru Europe, with very young children in tow, seeking in truth, refuge. A new start, safety, sustenance, shelter. Peace.
They are now here in the Atlanta area and Meg bridged that gap between a news story, a video on TV, a text crawl across my screens, and sat with an actual family of human beings. She hugged them. They wept. She held their babies.
We should help them. Their needs are great. I know so many of you want to spread some love, but it’s hard to know where to start. Right now these three families have homes to live in, which is quite remarkable. It’s supporting evidence that the milk of human kindness, does indeed, flow on.
Here are some things they need.... food, some fresh clothes.A baby will be born, joining them in the coming days, so they need a crib, a stroller, all the baby stuff. Heiney wipes. We could pay for their water and utilities for a month.Cookware, dishes, sewing machines, decor. Some English lessons. I mean, what would WE need if we had to grab a bag and our kids and run? We’d need everything. Can you imagine?
What would you do if, next week, you literally had nothing?Once I crawled out of a crippling panic attack, I’d cry an actual river, and then I’d get by, with a little help, from my friends.
I know the world and the madness these days is crushing and overwhelming. And yet I know we can’t make a huge dent, but we can make a little one, so we'll start with these families.Help them get started, love on them, and hopefully bring them some joy, some peace, a fresh start. There will be more and we plan on helping as many as we can. If you’d like to make a little dent for the love of all decency - join us. We can make a dollar go a long way!
*Familes are not eligible for any subsidies, nor will they be allowed work visas for many months.
Love,
Jenny and Meg
