Though the government has been instructed by a judge to continue supporting SNAP benefits during the shutdown, there is an increased uncertainty about what that will look like and may result in a lapse in benefits. This lapse may cause many of our neighbors to go hungry, and there will be an increased demand on local food banks.

A small group of MTU students felt frustrated about this, so we decided to do something – organize and host a community soup dinner! That’s where you come in – please join us on Nov. 9 from 5-8 pm at the Good Shepard Lutheran Church (1100 College Ave, Houghton, MI 49931) to eat soup and gather!

For folks who are food insecure – please come eat for free! For folks who can donate, the recommended donation is $5 (though we are happy to receive more if you are willing and able!). All proceeds will go to the Western UP Food Bank!
