A Mission to Aid Iraqi Children
My Dear Friends, I have some amazing news to share with you all! I am very humbled, grateful and excited to let you know that in just over a month from now, I will travel to Erbil in Northern Iraq to volunteer on a humanitarian mission with SOS Chretiens d'Orient. A French Catholic NGO, founded in 2013, its volunteers have been working tirelessly all over the Middle East, providing material assistance and support to Christian communities in desperate need. I am so passionate about this work and want to share with you the news about this mission. Iraqi Children Need Your Help! After three long and difficult years, living as displaced citizens in the refugee camps in Erbil, Christian Iraq is emerging from the ashes of fear and destruction and considering the future. 2017 is the year of hope for Iraqi families, who are on the cusp of a new dawn with many wanting to return to their homes, to the land of their ancestors. Dear friends, will you help me to help these people return home? In Northern Iraq, where I will be based, the volunteers of SOS Chretiens d’Orient have already begun their action, working in the refugee camps there, supporting thousands of families since they fled their homes in 2014. SOS assists in whatever capacity they are needed - emergency aid, medical supplies, educational resources, construction tools, food and toys. There is so much work to be done.
The volunteers of SOS work hand in hand with local people and parishes on the ground, providing life changing assistance to communities, helping to bring the supplies and equipment needed to make life more bearable on a daily basis, be it cooling fans during hot summer months, warm blankets in the winter, toys at Christmas. SOS Chretiens d'Orient has pledged to do everything possible to help Christian families return home. They bear witness to the damage wrought, assist with the repair work in villages, in churches, in schools and in doing so, giving hope to families embarking on the daunting taks of rebuilding their homes and their lives. I can't wait to do my bit to help. What can you to do help?
Your generosity will enable SOS Chretiens d’Orient to support these communities to: reconstruct their homes destroyed by ISIS, restore their churches burned, looted and defiled , resume clean water supplies and electricity systems, rebuild schools for Iraqi children who are the hope of the future , develop economic initiatives to restart their businesses. Dear Friends, these families deserve a better future. Theirs are families just like yours, they are brothers and sisters, daughters and sons, husbands and wives, living with the same hopes and dreams as ours, seeking for a peaceful place to live in harmony, in safety and in freedom so that they can practise their faith in peace and contribute to their society, as we do. They are villagers from Teleskaf, from Bartella, from Karamlesh and from Qaroqash. Your donations are their only resource .
Supporting day to day living in the camps is an important work of SOS, and as a volunteer in Erbil, I will spend some of my time with families providing activities and games with the little ones, teaching English to school children, organising activities for teenagers, cooking with families and praying together. My personal goal on this mission is to extend a hand of friendship and compassion to the refugees living in Erbil, to listen to their stories, to share these stories with the world, to offer a helping hand and a sense of solidarity, hope and kindness to all. To continue this work, You too can help
We can undertake this mission together, by donating now. Please support and encourage communities who are living in very difficult circumstances. Encourage them by your generosity, help them to stay in their homeland, to hope for a better future and to know that we, in the West, care. We must not abandon them in their need. I have set up this campaign to help those who have lost almost everything. I hope that together we can raise $4000, maybe more, maybe less, but all of which will go directly towards the essential work of SOS Chretiens d’Orient in Iraq in providing for the needs of children and families there. Your donations are our only resource
Perhaps your donation will buy the paint to remove the graffiti of jihadists on homes of ordinary people or the bricks to rebuild their ancient churches, or the school supplies for refugee children to thrive and succeed. However big or small, your donation is sure to help another person to live with dignity and hope. $4000 would be an amazing gift to bring with me to support Christian families living in Erbil. So, I ask you to please donate what you can. You can make a difference. It's the little things and ordinary people working together that can make extraordinary things happen so that our world becomes a better place. Whether or not you can donate, please pray for this mission! You will be remembered in our prayers and I will carry with me each and every message of support received from Australia and around the world. I ask for your prayers for the success of my journey to Erbil. "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of my brethren, you did it to me" (Mt. 25:40 ). Thank you and may God bless your generosity,
Ora
P.S. I am funding my travel expenses myself, so 100% of your donations (minus the gofundme 5% fee) will go directly to SOS Chretiens d'Orient in Erbil.
